Young Leaders

School Council

The Belvedere Preparatory School values its School Council. This is a forum to encourage pupils to contribute ideas and suggestions about all aspects of life at Belvedere Prep. Pupils from 7 years of age upwards are elected by their peers to sit on the School Council. It is the responsibility of each Councillor to ensure that they express both their own views and the views of all the other pupils they represent.

The School Council benefits the whole school, pupils and teachers. It provides opportunities for pupils to communicate their feelings to teachers and staff, as well as to influence decisions that are made.

Young Leadership

At The Belvedere Preparatory School we recognise that providing opportunities for leadership can play an important role in shaping the career and future of young people.

Leadership qualities are recognised as being as much about encouraging others and being part of a team, as taking the lead in a situation or activity. In a normal school day there are many opportunities for pupils to practise their leadership skills.

For our Year 5 and Year 6 pupils, leadership skills are more purposefully directed with a Young Leaders Scheme. This enables these pupils to explore the qualities and responsibilities of a leader. A 5 day residential Activity and Adventure Holiday fosters both independence, personal challenge and self-confidence.

Each Year 6 pupil is responsible for a specific area of school life and is expected to be a positive and supportive member of our school community. The year begins with a leadership assembly for the whole school, which is managed and organised by this cohort. At the end of their year they hand over responsibility to Year 5, as our school’s next young leaders.
